Its documentation describes multiple companions, roleplay, voice and video calls, and one of the most elaborate published memory systems in the category.

The Kindroid review verdict

Kindroid is the stronger choice for deep customization, roleplay, multiple companions, and granular memory design. Its free plan supports two Kindroids. The paid Standard plan supports ten plus group chats, while separate Ultra and MAX add-ons expand memory capacity further. Users can shape persistent context, keep journals, control long-term memory, and unify voice and text history.

Nola is the better fit when you do not want to build the companion experience yourself. She is designed around emotional conversation, relevant continuity, recurring-pattern recognition, and timely handoff to grounding, breathing, meditation, or sleep tools. Kindroid gives you more levers. Nola gives you a more focused job.

What Kindroid is built for

Kindroid calls itself an AI companion experience and states that it offers an “unfiltered” model within three narrow content rules. Its memory documentation revolves around backstory, key memories, example messages, directives, chat history, long-term memory, and journals. Its subscription page adds multiple Kindroids and group chats.

That combination supports both friendship-style configuration and roleplay. The official material expressly welcomes legal adult roleplay and creative storytelling, while the same setup fields can define other companion relationships. We do not infer how most people use it or claim one relationship type is the default.

The July 7, 2026 Kindroid free plan

Kindroid's plan documentation, updated July 7, 2026, defines a useful free tier. It includes unlimited messages on Lite, the smaller distilled model, two Kindroids per account, basic long-term memory, and 5,000 lifetime audio characters, which Kindroid estimates at about five minutes across messages and calls.

The important memory limit is that free accounts do not get Cascaded Memory, Kindroid's enhanced medium-term system. Free accounts also use the basic version of long-term recall. Those limits make the free plan a real way to start, but not a representative sample of every memory feature described elsewhere.

New free users are eligible for a three-day premium trial. It requires a payment method and auto-converts to a subscription unless cancelled during the trial. Web trials also require a verified mobile number, though Kindroid says a user can subscribe on the web without taking the trial. Kindroid pricing as of September 1, 2026

Kindroid publishes separate US prices for direct web billing and iOS or Google Play. Web is cheaper. Standard is available monthly, every three months, or yearly. Ultra and MAX are monthly memory add-ons that stack on top of the lower tiers.

What paid plans add without reading every limit

Standard moves from Lite to the flagship models, expands short-term context, adds Cascaded Memory and stronger long-term recall, supports ten Kindroids and twenty groups, and adds video calls, custom voice options, more audio, and more image features. That is the main upgrade most buyers need to understand.

Ultra and MAX exist primarily for higher context and memory capacity. Their prices stack because each is an add-on to the tier below. They are not required to use Kindroid's basic companion experience. They matter to someone maintaining long, intricate setups or many-character interactions where more context has direct value.

Kindroid memory: five systems and real controls

Kindroid groups memory into three types across five systems. Persistent memory includes configured fields such as backstory and key memories, plus chat history. Cascaded Memory is a subscriber-only medium-term layer that can carry context across hundreds or thousands of earlier messages at lower fidelity. Retrievable memory includes automated long-term memory and user-authored journals.

Several controls are unusually explicit. Learned Context is viewable and editable for paid users. Journal entries are editable and recalled through keyphrases. Long-term memory recall and consolidation can be disabled at the Kindroid or group level. A purple brain icon can show when long-term or journal memories were recalled for a reply.

Kindroid is also candid about limits. Cascaded memories can miss details. Retrievable memory may not always be recalled. Long-term memory can grow without a stated quantity limit, but Kindroid says recall becomes less reliable as more memories accumulate. That is stronger documentation than a vague “remembers everything” promise.

Kindroid clearly beats Nola on memory configuration and visibility. Nola uses relevant cross-conversation context and is designed to notice patterns, but the approved product evidence does not document five user-facing systems, journals, or paid context tiers. Voice calls, video, and shared history

Kindroid supports voice messages, continuous voice calls, and video calls. Subscribers can create custom voices. Voice calls can use the same backstory, key memories, long-term memory, and journals as text. With unified history enabled, users can move between text and calls while carrying the latest context forward.

Kindroid says microphone input, audio output, and video are processed ephemerally and are not stored. It separately says a temporary call transcript can persist within the active call session and reset after leaving the page. These are company statements, not an independent security guarantee.

This is another area where Kindroid beats Nola. Nola supports voice input, but the current evidence does not establish two-way spoken or video calls. If a custom spoken companion is central, Kindroid is built for it.

Kindroid privacy: useful statements and important limits

Kindroid's policy says chats and other sensitive application data are encrypted at rest and in transit. It says cloud and other service providers may store and process encrypted data to support the service, and it reserves the right to decrypt relevant data for legal or contractual requirements. The policy lists hosting, analytics, security, support, and payment providers among disclosure categories.

It also says chat conversations and generated media are retained until the user deletes a specific AI or the account. For California privacy terminology, Kindroid states that it has not sold or shared personal data in the prior 12 months and will not do so. Those are policy statements. They do not guarantee complete privacy, anonymity, or freedom from access.

The model-training question remains unresolved. The current legal text discusses using information to improve the service and permits de-identified or aggregated use, but it does not clearly state whether private chats are used to train generative models. Moderation means encrypted does not mean unseen forever

Kindroid's August 2026 moderation documentation says automated systems scan recent chats, selfies, and setup fields for three narrow categories: imminent self-harm planning, imminent real-world harm to others, and sexual or abusive content involving minors. It says no human reads content during automated detection.

If an account is locked and the user appeals, proceeding gives explicit consent for a trained Trust and Safety member to decrypt and review the exact flagged context from the relevant period. That is a narrower process than routine staff reading, but it matters when interpreting a broad privacy sentence. Encryption and conditional human access can both be true.

Deletion and age requirements

Individual chat messages cannot be deleted. A user can regenerate the latest Kindroid reply or edit the latest user message, but not remove an older exchange. To delete the account, all Kindroids except the final one can be removed immediately; the last is scheduled for deletion within 24 hours. Global journals and user backstory are then removed, while Kindroid says it keeps limited subscription, currency, and logistics records to prevent abuse.

Kindroid is for adults. Its terms require users to be at least 18 or the age of majority in their jurisdiction, whichever is greater. Paid users are verified through the payment on file. Free accounts can be assessed by a behavioral age-estimation system, and flagged accounts must verify through a subscription or Yoti. Kindroid says Yoti handles selfie or identity-document verification and does not provide those materials to Kindroid.

Who should choose Nola instead

Choose Nola if backstory fields, memory tiers, and companion groups sound like setup work you do not want. Nola offers one consistent, warm persona built around emotional support. She follows the thread, remembers relevant context, notices recurring patterns, and can suggest a grounding, breathing, meditation, or sleep tool in the same flow.

Choose Kindroid if detailed authorial control is the pleasure: multiple companions, roleplay, custom voices, calls, journals, and carefully managed memory. Its customization and voice systems beat Nola's current documented offer. Nola wins when the point is not building a character but getting through a noisy moment and understanding what keeps returning.
